Bundles vs. Pools

Choosing between a License Bundle and a License Pool depends on how your team is structured and how you prefer to manage your software access. Here is a breakdown to help you decide which fits your workflow best.

Option 1: The License Bundle (Individual Control)

Think of this like buying a 5-pack of tickets to a show; each person gets their own ticket.

  • How it works: You receive 5 unique, independent license keys. Each key is assigned to one specific user or machine.
  • The Advantage: It offers maximum isolation. If one team member leaves the company or one machine is compromised, you only need to revoke or replace that specific key. The other 4 licenses remain completely unaffected.
  • The Disadvantage: It requires more “paperwork.” You have to track which key was given to which person.
  • Best Scenario: Use this for remote teams, contractors, or decentralized departments where you want each user to be responsible for their own individual access.

Option 2: The License Pool (Shared Access)

Think of this like a “family pass” or a gym membership with 5 guest slots.

  • How it works: You receive one single master key. That same key can be entered on up to 5 different machines simultaneously.
  • The Advantage: Extreme simplicity. You only have one code to remember and distribute. It’s much faster to deploy across a large office or a lab because you don’t have to keep track of which unique key goes where.
  • The Disadvantage: Shared risk. If the master key is leaked or stolen, you have to reset it, which might temporarily disconnect all 5 users until the new master key is distributed.
  • Best Scenario: Use this for internal offices, computer labs, or small tight-knit teams where the priority is speed of setup and ease of management.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose the Bundle if you want to maintain strict, granular control over every single “seat” you’ve purchased.
  • Choose the Pool if you want a “set it and forget it” experience for a group of trusted users.
